Shakespeare in Schools Bookings Are Open!

Calling all WACI Schools!!

Teachers can now apply to become a participating school in our Shakespeare in Schools activity. Places are limited on a first-come-first-served basis. Not sure if your teacher knows about it or if they have applied? Let them know and get involved in spreading the word!

Who it is for: Those interested in performing arts.
When: Wed 30 Oct – Fri 1 Nov, during school time.
Where: In participating schools OR in-house at RCS

The Shakespeare in Schools initiative is offered in collaboration with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s BA Acting programme. BA Acting students are invited into participating schools to work with pupils on a piece of Shakespeare. This opportunity will give participants a greater understanding of Shakespeare’s text and help to foster an interest in his work.

Shakespeare in Schools includes:

  • Workshops on the themes of a Shakespearean play (Macbeth)
  • Observation of scenes from the play performed by BA Acting students
  • A devised performance based on the themes of the Shakespearean text by BA Acting students and your pupils
  • Tickets to see a performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in January/February

Shakespeare in Schools framework:

  • 9am – 3pm
  • Maximum number of 30 participants
  • Suitable for Nat 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Drama students. Also suitable for English classes with students happy to get involved in a drama style workshop.
  • A drama space or assembly hall is required to work in

Summer School Scholarships - Applications Now Open

Do you go to one of the 37 FOCUS West schools?

Interested in a career in the creative industries?

Want to develop your skills in a chosen field?

We’re able to offer up to 10 fully-funded places on one of the Summer Schools taking place here at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland throughout the school holidays.

These courses offer an opportunity for you to try something new, develop your existing experience and/or gain a more in-depth understanding within a variety of art forms.

From dance to drama to filmmaking, there’s something for everyone with an interest in the performing and production arts – why not click here to have a look at the Lifelong Learning Summer School’s programme and see if there’s a course that appeals to you.

Some of the courses are very popular, and spaces will fill up quickly – we’ll be assessing applications as and when they come in, so get your application in as soon as you can to avoid being disappointed!

WACI Short Courses - Applications Open!

This session WACI are delighted to be able to offer short introductory courses in various creative disciplines.

For S4 – S6 pupils, these short taster courses offer an introduction to Filmmaking, Contemporary Dance, Performance Skills and Theatre Production: Art & Design. Whether you’ve done something like this before or you just want to try something new, come along to get a taster of life in the Creative Industries, develop some new skills and (hopefully) have fun!

Filmmaking – An Introduction
This short course introduces pupils to the different aspects of the filmmaking process from the development of an original idea to students outlining, shooting, directing and editing into a finished product.

Contemporary Dance
This course is designed to give a practical and exciting introduction to the variety of
performance styles and career pathways in the dance industry.

Performance Skills
For aspiring theatre makers this short course explores the skills and techniques you may
need to study theatre at further or higher education.

Theatre Production: Art & Design
This course gives you a practical taste of set design, prop-making, costume and scenic art. Taught by industry professionals the course will offer an introduction to these fields and possible career pathways.

When: Mondays from 6-8pm
Dates: 18 Feb – 25 Mar
Where: Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, 100 Renfrew St, Glasgow
