Estranged students are young people studying without the support and approval of a family network. Young people in this position have removed themselves from a dysfunctional situation and often have no contract at all with any of their family. These situations can be caused by:
- Emotional abuse
- Mismatched expectations about family roles and relationships
- A clash of personality or values including social and cultural expectations
This does not include young people who are estranged from one parent/family member, but still live with and receive support from another parent/member of the family.
You can find more information on how the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland can support you on the RCS Website pages for ‘Corporate Parenting‘.
