Equipment and Applications

Equipment

It is perfectly possible with smartphones and tablets to now produce stunning results. For this project, you will require an iPhone or iPad (Requires iOS 9.3 or later) or an Android device.

Other equipment to consider but is not essential in order to complete your film could include:

A phone or tablet tripod. If purchasing further equipment this would be your #1 purchase. Tripods really help with image stabilisation. The ones with bendy legs are good so that you can attach to nearby items like a table or chair when required.
A lavalier mic if conducting interviews or recording people talking in close-ups will help improve your sound.
Closed Back Headphones are great for being able to monitor your sound volumes without sound escaping and muddying your audio.
A battery power bank. Filming lots of footage on your device will drain your power quicker than usual. Having plugs nearby on location are best but battery packs are also useful.
If you have a camera rig, an on-camera microphone will improve your sound. Remember to buy the cable if purchasing one.

Applications

For demonstration purposes, we will use the iMovie App on iPhone and iPads but many other apps are available across platforms that are very similar.
