Roving Reporters at Performance Trips

 ROVING REPORTERS OUT AND ABOUT

Coming live from Transitions Performance Trips

Three of our Fair Access Ambassadors became Roving Reporters at Transitions performance trips recently. They captured some great opinions and reactions from some of the students attending the trips.

At the National Theatre of Scotland’s ‘Kidnapped’ and Scottish Ballet’s ‘Streetcar Named Desire’, Jade, Sam and Jessica got the scoop on what people thought of the shows. They asked what star ratings students would give each show and asked why they felt it was important for students studying the performing and production arts to attend as many shows as possible.

People had different views on the performances but everyone agreed that getting to see such a range of high-quality performances for free, and in the company of other young creative people was a chance not to be missed!

‘We’re all from different artforms but on this night we all share one thing in common; we’re going to see this show together and can talk to each other about it!’

Hosting performance trips for students is just one of the ways in which both Transitions and WACI can help students.

Transitions Students Performance Trip

In February a number of our Transitions students were offered the opportunity to see the Nicola Benedetti-Elschenbroich-Grynyuk Trio in concert.

Three musicians, cello, violin and piano

Nicola Benedetti needs no introduction at RCS with her inspiring music-making and education programme. The Benedetti-Elschenbroich–Grynyuk Trio performed on the RCS stage with chamber works from Schumann, Rihm and Brahms.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed the performance, providing us with the following feedback:

“I really loved the Brahms piano trio. it was one of the first piano trios I have ever listened to, so it meant a lot to hear it in person by amazing musicians!”

“I felt connected and just overcome with emotion. I felt so grateful to be able to listen to the music and felt such joy listening to it.”

“It reminded me why I want to pursue performance since it brings so much joy to people.”

“I felt so happy to be there. I’m so happy that I got the chance to see this performance. Also, the performance gave me so much inspiration and energy, I want to do music even more than before.”

“I was totally captivated by the whole performance, and couldn’t help but feel like this was something I wanted to do in my future career. There was such variation amongst the pieces, and each one reflected something different – be that different emotions and ideas.“

“It’s really exciting to listen to new music and see new performances/musicians and that it is also a really good learning experience as you expand your knowledge of repertoire and learn essential performance skills.”

We have more Transitions performance trips in the pipeline throughout the coming months, so be sure to keep an eye out for new opportunities to sign-up!

Term One Performance Trips

Our Term One compulsory activity kicks off over the coming weeks with two exciting performance trips.

A heeled shoe on a table surrounded by fairy lights.

Firstly, we will be taking our pre-Juniors students to see Cinderella.  We can’t wait to see RCS acting students performing panto again in the building and sharing the experience with our youngest students.

For all other students not yet in their year of application, we have been working with the Edinburgh International Festival and dance company Akram Khan, to share their award-winning performance Chotto Xenos.   The performance has been specifically designed for young audiences and there will be three screenings to make sure that everyone can come along, followed by a thought-provoking activity to get the best out of the experience.
