Money Matters

If you are a Scottish student studying your first degree at a Scottish Institution your tuition fees are met in full by the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS).  All of the details can be found of the SAAS website.

As well as paying your fees, you may be eligible to apply for a student loan and/or a student bursary.  Here is a page on the SAAS website detailing everything you need to know.

There is also a very useful link to a funding calculator to help you budget.  Don’t be daunted that it is likely to show that your outgoings will exceed your income when you fill this in, that is perfectly normal.  It will help you to decide whether you need to work and/or look for other sources of funding.

Conservatoire studies can be very time-consuming which does make having a job a challenge.  You can minimise the amount of work you might need to do by applying for additional bursaries and scholarships.

You may also be awarded or be invited to apply for a scholarship with RCS.  Please make sure that you read your offer very carefully and take the action required within the deadline.

You can also find some useful tips on the UCAS website for reducing your outgoings.

If you are care experienced or estranged, there is some specific financial support available.  If you are a carer you can apply for a grant towards living costs.

If you wish to study elsewhere in the UK you can apply for a SAAS student loan to cover your fees but we also recommend that you discuss any bursaries or scholarships you can access at the Institution you will be attending.

If you are a Transitions student we will do our best to point you in the right direction if you can’t find what you need.
