Yana has been cast in a 15-minute comedy pilot that is available online on All4 and YouTube. The show is called Unfair and is set in a Showman’s yard in the East End of Glasgow.

This is what Yana had to say about her the experience:

‘ The show tells the story of a sheltered young woman being kicked out if her mums house and moving in with her boyfriend and his family. Her boyfriend however happens to be a Showman and it’s quite the culture shock.

This show is particularly close to me heart as I am ethnically a Showperson and my community is more often than not misrepresented. The show was written by Emma Lennox, who is married to a showman and has been living on a yard for years. I believe it’s based on her experience.

I play Missouri, the intimidating little sister. I also worked alongside Fair Scotland as an advisor helping the production team with accuracy.’

Transitions Students Performance Trip

In February a number of our Transitions students were offered the opportunity to see the Nicola Benedetti-Elschenbroich-Grynyuk Trio in concert.

Three musicians, cello, violin and piano

Nicola Benedetti needs no introduction at RCS with her inspiring music-making and education programme. The Benedetti-Elschenbroich–Grynyuk Trio performed on the RCS stage with chamber works from Schumann, Rihm and Brahms.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed the performance, providing us with the following feedback:

“I really loved the Brahms piano trio. it was one of the first piano trios I have ever listened to, so it meant a lot to hear it in person by amazing musicians!”

“I felt connected and just overcome with emotion. I felt so grateful to be able to listen to the music and felt such joy listening to it.”

“It reminded me why I want to pursue performance since it brings so much joy to people.”

“I felt so happy to be there. I’m so happy that I got the chance to see this performance. Also, the performance gave me so much inspiration and energy, I want to do music even more than before.”

“I was totally captivated by the whole performance, and couldn’t help but feel like this was something I wanted to do in my future career. There was such variation amongst the pieces, and each one reflected something different – be that different emotions and ideas.“

“It’s really exciting to listen to new music and see new performances/musicians and that it is also a really good learning experience as you expand your knowledge of repertoire and learn essential performance skills.”

We have more Transitions performance trips in the pipeline throughout the coming months, so be sure to keep an eye out for new opportunities to sign-up!

Transitions Welcome New Student Assistants

Over the coming months, we hope to be able to provide more opportunities both in-person and online, compulsory or optional.  We are currently looking at what is on offer in terms of live performance and are very excited at the prospect of seeing more students in person again.

Group of people on a video call.

Student Assistants are an important part of our plans – they support whoever is leading an event but their main role is to be there to get to know students.  They are usually ex-Transitions students and studying at RCS, so they know first-hand what it is like to make the transition.  We are also very happy to offer work to former students whenever we can to help them become multi-skilled artists.

So when students take part in an activity and there is a student assistant present, they would love to be asked questions about their journey and share their tips for success!
