April is Care Experienced History Month

Get involved throughout April!

The Care Experienced History month team are encouraging everyone from around the world to commemorate the history of Care Experienced people in their country by joining them in support of Care Experienced History Month.

There are a number of ways you can get involved:

  • Attend an event
    Check out the Get Involved page to see what is happening.
  • Host an event
    You can host your own CEHM event and we will add it to our calendar of events.
  • Take part in the International Care Experienced Day of Remembrance
    Find out more here.

Who Cares? Scotland is also offering the opportunity for you or your organization to sponsor Care Experienced History. For further information or to register your interest in this initiative you can visit the Who Cares? Scotland website.

What It Means To Be Me | Screening and Discussion

 WHAT IT MEANS TO BE ME 

Care Experienced and Estranged Screening & Discussion

Fair Access and GMAC warmly invite you to an entertaining and inspiring screening and discussion event for people with lived experience of the care system. We will screen a curated programme of short films made by and featuring care experienced and estranged young people.  The short film programme will be followed by a discussion that explores the opportunities for care experienced and estranged young people to engage with the arts.

Where: GMAC Film Theatre, Fifth Floor, Trongate 103 Glasgow G1 5HD
Cost: Free
For people: who are care experienced, estranged, people who work in care / corporate parenting sector and stakeholders.

Holiday Greetings from Fair Access

As we have approached the end of the year we wanted to thank all our students for your commitment during such challenging times. We can see how hard all our Transitions and Widening Access to the Creative Industries students have been working and the Fair Access Team are really proud of you all. 

We believe that the performing and production arts have the power to change lives and we’ve seen this first hand through our workshops, outreach, creative projects, performance trips, creative conversations and events. We hope that you all get to spend the time with the people you like the best over the holidays.

'What It Means To Be Me' Event

Screening and Discussion Event

Are you or someone you know care experienced or estranged and interested in the performing/production arts? Do you want to get involved in a discussion about the impact of the arts on this group? Then come along to our screening and discussion event in partnership with GMAC.

We will be doing a screening of our wonderful films that showcase our work with care experienced and estranged students people including our own RCS students alongside younger participants.

Who: For Care Experienced and Estranged Young People interested in the arts and people who support and celebrate those young people.
When: Thursday 20 January, 5:50-7:30pm

Hear Me Out!

Hear Me Out! provides a safe space for care experienced young people to discover their voice, their own vibration, and to be heard.

Music is about vibration and the release of energy, a vital way of us connecting with ourselves and checking in with our emotional well-being. Having your voices heard is such a vital part of life, through our words, our gestures or our music. Often we don’t give it the importance that it deserves.

Participants attend warm and welcoming workshops with experienced vocal studies staff and students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. These workshops encourage participants to unlock their voice – no sound is incorrect and all sound is encouraged and celebrated.

Our Hear Me Out project started on November 13 and runs until Dec 4.
