How did you find out about Transitions?

Through attending WACI events at RCS

When did you get involved with Transitions?

January 2019

What was the most useful thing you learned about your artform and yourself?

The most useful thing I learned about my art form and myself is that you never stop learning, there is always something you can improve upon. That can sound daunting and can almost seem as if you may never be ‘good enough’ but I think that even if you sound amazing and have worked your socks off you can only get better if you continue to learn from others. In my opinion, you should take every opportunity to learn from others around you as you never know who may explain something in just the right way that makes everything ‘click’.

Why should someone think about joining Transitions?

Joining Transitions has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. I have been able to access so many opportunities and different kinds of support that I hadn’t had before. The Transitions team are wonderfully friendly and supportive, they have always done everything in their power to support myself and others within the programme. They offer countless activities and resources to help expand our knowledge and experience of all different art forms which all either come free of cost or are significantly reduced so that they are accessible for all. In my opinion, this is a huge priority for Transitions – Accessibility – the team really do make so many things accessible for everyone.

What is one piece of advice would you give to any current student on Transitions?

A piece of advice I would give would be to take advantage of any opportunity that comes your way whether or not you would consider it “your thing”. It can be daunting to try something new but try to be open-minded because some of the most spontaneous decisions can turn out to be the most fun. If you’re not sure if that trip or that interview is part of your artform, what’s the harm in going a long anyway? You could learn something new about another artform you don’t know much about or it may help you view your own artform in a completely different light!

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently within your time with Transitions?

If I were to do it all over again, I’m not sure I would do many things differently. I would probably try to attend more trips and opportunities for different art forms. It was difficult to interact with some opportunities during COVID as everything was online but if it were a normal year I would try to attend more concerts, plays, workshops and interviews.
