Introduction
Sound design is the art and practice of creating soundtracks for a variety of needs.
Sounds can be used for multiple purposes such as:
- To assist storytelling: Eg/ in the theatre we may hear a telephone ring or a door knock and the actor will respond to this and answer the phone or open the door.
- To create an environment or replicate the natural world: Eg/ The sound of rain outside the window. Cars passing by. The interior of a hospital.A futuristic sci-fi world.
- To emphasise the mood of a scene: Eg/ A musical drone in a minor key can suggest something ominous is about to happen. Birdsong can suggest optimism.
