National Schools Workshop: Performance

 Exploring Text and Building Character

This workshop is aimed at: 

Pupils studying Drama at N5, Higher or Advanced Higher.  Pupils who have an interest in careers in theatre, acting and performance but those who are not studying Drama are also welcome. 

Why should you do it? 

If you are curious about what options there are for further study beyond school and careers in theatre, acting and performance, this is the workshop for you. This session will give you the chance to find out more about this world.  

Tutor

Rebecca Wilkie studied BA Acting at RCS, winning their prestigious James Bridie Gold Medal Award for best performance in her final year. Her experience ranges across theatre, film and voiceover work. She has worked with companies including the BBC, Tron Theatre, Traverse, Eden Court and last year won a Scotsmans Fringe First for new play Everything Under the Sun. 

Workshop Content 

  • Information on Access and Higher Education courses that incorporate performance and acting 
  • Career in performance and acting 
  • How to explore a play text to discover clues about characters and their relationships 
  • How to use that information to develop your character 
  • How to put this into action in a scene

All workshops will: 

  • Require two periods or equivalent 
  • Be targeted toward S5-6 
  • Be offered on a first come first served basis 
  • Provide students with an insight into the fully funded access programmes at RCS, further and high education pathways and potential career options 
  • Serve as talking point on their personal statement 
  • Provide them with transferable skills for their SQA assessments
