How to Apply and Audition (USA)

Steps to Applying for RCS

Step 1:
Check your deadlines

The closing date for all on time international applications is the 1st December 2018 for the School of Music, and the 31st of March 2019 for the School of Drama. We do not offer deferred entry. If you wish to commence in 2020, you must apply next year. The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland institution code is R58.

Step 2:
Check your entrance requirements

The minimum general entrance requirement for undergraduate/Bachelor’s-level programmes is the successful completion of a High School Diploma or successful completion of the International Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum score of 24 with three subjects at Higher level). Postgraduate/Master’s-level applicants should possess (or be in the final year of) an appropriate undergraduate degree. A wide range of qualifications is accepted, including various international qualifications. If you would like to check the suitability of your qualifications, please email

Step 3:
Complete your UCAS application

Applications for all programmes offered by Royal Conservatoire of Scotland must be made online through UCAS Conservatoires (somewhat similar to the US Common Application).

Within the UCAS Conservatoires application, you will be able to select either ‘New York’ or ‘Chicago’ (if applicable) as your preferred audition method. Please note that you may also elect to submit a recorded audition instead, and these recorded auditions (uploaded through Acceptd) are reviewed equally by the audition panel. No matter your method of audition, UCAS Conservatoires will collect both an application fee of £25 and audition fee of £55.

Step 4:
Complete your Acceptd application

Once you have completed your UCAS Conservatoires application, regardless of whether you are doing a live audition or recorded audition, please go to Acceptd and submit an application via this also. Once you are on the homepage for RCS (, you can begin your application on the left-hand side of the page. Please remember to mark your application type as an International Audition, and to note the option Provide links or other URL on the video selection question. If you are doing a live audition, no other information (i.e. photos, resumes, etc.) is required from you – Acceptd is simply a means of transferring any recorded elements of your live audition to our departments based in Glasgow and is a mandatory part of the application process for any student auditioning internationally.

Step 5:
Plan for your audition

After you submit your UCAS Conservatoires application, RCS will be in touch to schedule your live audition (unless you elected ‘Recording’ as your audition method). We will do our best to work around any pre-existing audition schedule conflicts you may have, but in order to do this you should submit your UCAS Conservatoires application as soon as possible. If you have a pre-existing conflict and cannot attend your audition at the assigned time, please contact us at as soon as possible.
