How did you find out about Transitions?

I was contacted after my first audition with RCS which I was unsuccessful in.

When did you get involved with Transitions?

2020

What was the most useful thing you learned about your artform and yourself?

I think that the most valuable thing I learned about my artform was how it works in the real world. I got the chance to learn from both a professional stage manager and also a current stage management student and got to see all the important details of what being a Stage Manager entails. In regards to my own development, Transitions helped me so much with confidence. I got valuable feedback through 1:1 sessions, interview prep courses and mock interviews that made a world of difference to my entire application process and my own personal belief in myself.

Why should someone think about joining Transitions?

The opportunities for growth are second to none and was one of the best things I’ve ever done. Everyone from my student mentor, my personal coach, the interview skills team and all of the Transitions staff do an incredible job at tailoring the course to your needs. Working with you throughout not only the application process but lots of fun and interesting opportunities throughout the year. For me personally, joining Transitions was the biggest stepping stone from an unsuccessful audition to a successful one within a year.

What is one piece of advice would you give to any current student on Transitions?

My advice would be to get involved! There are lots of fun opportunities throughout the year and the chance to work with a variety of different people so it’s definitely something to take advantage of. I was a Transitions student during covid times so of course all of my experiences were virtual which was daunting as it was my first time being on Zoom calls and I was really nervous at first but everyone throughout the entire course was so great and did a great job at making us all feel welcome and comfortable. Don’t stress about it and just enjoy the experience, as you will definitely benefit greatly from it!

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently within your time with Transitions?

Obviously it was out of anyone’s control, but ideally, if I could redo my whole experience, I would love to have been able to experience it all in person, rather than through Zoom and Microsoft Teams calls. Being able to meet with mentors and other students in person would have been amazing, but due to the pandemic it just wasn’t possible, but the team did a great job at making it really work online and still really interactive and enjoyable. I would also have tried to participate some more, but for a lot of the course I was balancing Transitions with a full-time job, which was a bit of a barrier at times, unfortunately.
