How did you find out about Transitions?

School.

When did you get involved with Transitions?

2017

What was the most useful thing you learned about your artform and yourself?

The most useful thing I learned was to have a strong work ethic. Through courses like Acting 2 and Introduction to Actor Training, I was taught by professionals in the industry and learnt the work and dedication it takes to be an actor. Whilst studying on these courses I also learnt more about acting which has helped me a great deal to secure acting work. I also learnt more about myself as a person and took steps to grow and develop alongside working on my acting. Overall I learnt to really work hard which I had a hard time doing at school. Transitions helped me make my goal of becoming an actor a reality and with that came the realisation of the work it takes to be a working actor. I found myself being able to push through hard times whilst studying with the help of the transitions team and that built resilience within myself. I learnt so much about myself and acting whilst at Transitions and I am very grateful for it.

Why should someone think about joining Transitions?

Transitions is a fantastic opportunity to develop your craft, work with creatively minded peers and learn from some of the best in your chosen industry. During my time at Transitions, I learnt so much from the acting courses offered and was able to develop my craft and take steps to further education. I was taught by some of my favourite teachers who truly cared and helped build on my potential. I was able to go to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with Transitions and saw amazing plays and met new friends I still have to this day. To anyone who has been offered a place, I say take it. You will be able to take classes on what you love doing, meet friends and study at the fantastic Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Transitions helped me a great deal as an actor and helped me gain a place on my chosen course.

What is one piece of advice would you give to any current student on Transitions?

My main piece of advice is to be patient and enjoy where you are at now. I left school and wanted to get a place at drama school straight away but it didn’t happen for me my first year. Looking back though this was one of the best things to happen to me. First of all, it taught me what being an actor was going to be like. A lot of auditions and ultimately some rejections along the way. I was lucky enough to have a place at Transitions and still work on my craft. I also started to make my own work, act in short films and plays where I met a lot of my good friends. This helped me get a professional job as an actor which was another experience I learnt a lot from. On my third time auditioning I was lucky enough to get a place on my chosen course. Again patience is so important for working within the arts.
