How did you find out about Transitions?

Transitions had approached me, I applied for a bursary via RCS in my juniors application, which they may have referred me to the Transitions team.

When did you get involved with Transitions?

2019

What was the most useful thing you learned about your artform and yourself?

I think for me it was a culture shock with the different type of learning I experienced compared to school. I had to adapt really fast in order to keep up. Being able to adapt and engage with others made me realise that I need to be flexible as a musician in order to succeed in the profession. I found this valuable and it really is a transferable skill that can be applied to all aspects of life, which encouraged me also to do as much as I can whilst I was at RCS.

Why should someone think about joining Transitions?

With what transitions offer, I think is quite important as straight away you’re making connections with people which I feel is very important for performing arts, and then you meet other students who are like-minded and you find yourself in a great environment to develop as a person. They also offer great learning experiences through trips or masterclasses as such, which is a valuable experience to any young person.

What is one piece of advice would you give to any current student on Transitions?

Do as much as you can, even if it’s not your art form. Much of my memories with transitions come from the trips I took part in that didn’t involve my artform. That’s where much of my enjoyment came from as you learn so much. It also means you meet new people(and always make a good impression I.e ask questions because I think that is how people remember you).

If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently within your time with Transitions?

Honestly, I wish I knew transitions existed a long time ago, as I was rather late in starting with them. Purely so it would mean I could have done more with them and had more experiences. Saying that I do wish I could have committed to a lot more things out there that was offered.
