Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid

The Conservatoire has committed to offering training to staff who wish to become Mental Health First Aiders and has a list of trained individuals who are available to help staff as a first point of contact if experiencing mental ill health, either themselves or through supporting someone else.

We’ll be running a series of MHFA Staff Profiles shortly where you can hear more about them and how they can help – we hope that hearing from them directly will help make that first call or message that little bit easier.

If you are experiencing mental ill health and want to talk to someone for some initial support then please use the contacts list within the link below. You can approach anyone in this list by using the contact details provided or on Teams via calls or the chat function. Using Teams will enable you to determine who is currently online and available however we will shortly be updating the list to include working patterns so that it is easier to determine who might be available.

The trained MHFAs are able to:

  • understand the important factors affecting mental ill health;
  • recognise the signs and symptoms for a range of mental health conditions;
  • be able to use ALGEE (see below) to provide Mental Health First Aid to someone experiencing
    a mental health issue or crisis;
  • listen non-judgementally and hold supportive conversations using the Mental Health
    First Aid action plan;
  • signpost people to professional help, recognising that a Mental Health
    First Aider does not replace the need for ongoing support.
