English Language Support

Students are able to book free in-sessional English language classes at the Conservatoire. The 1-2-1 tutorials offer students one hour per week of course-related English language support. Classes are between the individual student and the support tutor and take place in a relaxed and friendly environment. The classes exist to make sure you understand everything to do with your course. For example, for music students, the tutorials can explain the vocabulary and language used in your first study lessons and performance classes, the content of your Integrated Music Studies lectures and everything to do with the written coursework for all undergraduate or masters programme. Tutorials are also available to Erasmus+ students. Further information on classes will be given out by the tutor during induction week commencing 20 September 2021.

Study Skills

Studying in the UK can be different from other countries and it may take some time to adapt. Academic culture can vary greatly across the UK and will depend on the course you take the type of institution you attend. Although UK conservatoires focus strongly on performance-related activities, academic work is a requirement on all programmes. To familiarise yourself well in advance of your arrival you should visit the UKCISA website – https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/Information–Advice/Preparation-and-Arrival/Study-skills-for-success
