Online Resources Searching tips and extra bits

If you are struggling to sign into a particular resource, journal or e-book then you can try following instructions on the Offsite Access Guides for E-Resources Page which will show you what you should be seeing when trying to gain access.

If you are having problems with e-books then please refer to the Using E-Books page.

Remember you can email library@rcs.ac.uk if you have any problems or are struggling with using or gaining access to our online resources.

Below you can find information relating to specific online resources which have extra functions or have guides to help you search or make the most of the resources themselves.

Alexander Street Press includes many different databases across all of the disciplines

To sign in to these resources please consult the Alexander Street Offsite Access Instructions

Here are some videos to help you make the most of these resources:

 Film and Television Literature Index

Both these databases are provided by EBSCOhost and within them you can create your own personal account which will allow you to save search results, create search alerts, journal alerts, and add articles to your personal My EBSCOhost folder. You can also export citations out into reference manager software or email it yourself.

You can create folders without creating an account but they will not be saved past your session so if you would like to refer back to them at another date then you will need to create your own account to do this. Alternatively you can add them to a folder and email them to yourself if you do not want to make a personal account. You can also export citations without creating an account as well.

Once signed into either database with your RCS network username and password you can then sign into your personal account. To make a personal account select sign in at the top of the right hand side of the screen.

Here you can sign in or create a new personal account. Once signed in you can start to do any of the above and set preferences such as when exporting to always send citations in Chicago style etc.

The following videos will give you more information about the above (please note that they cover all EBSCOhost databases so the website pages may not necessarily look like you would expect).
