Projects Across Scotland

Between September 2023 and April 2024 we ran four creative projects. These helped us explore ways of working with care experienced and estranged people. The projects spanned different artforms, contexts, participant age ranges and geographical locations across Scotland.  At the end of each project, we interviewed the artists and participants and wrote a case study about it. You can read a PDF of the report called ‘Let’s Talk About’ here. The interviews helped us to understand the impact and value of the project as well as any learning we can take forwards from it.

Three teens watching a screen in a darkened room In Aberdeenshire… The Melwood Project

A visual artist/video designer and sound artist worked with care experienced young people from Meldrum Academy to create a film and photography installation inspired by cultural and rural spaces. The project was supported by the Aberdeenshire Virtual Head Teacher and staff from within the school.

In Ayrshire… MOTHer, motHER, mOTHER

A care experienced young artist worked with a professional playwright and an actor to begin writing an original piece of theatre exploring care experience, motherhood and loss. A work in progress was shared with an invited audience at RCS.

Two young people lifting another in a star position On Mull… We Are All Just People in the Room

Care experienced and estranged artists visited the island to work with young people and the creative team at Mull Youth Theatre. This involved an exploration of how to create and hold safe, inclusive spaces which resulted in the creation of a manifesto for the youth theatre’s work and a photographic exhibition at An Tobar.

Three women in costumes on stage pretend sleeping In the Central Belt… The Story Cart

We worked with care experienced and estranged performers from different creative disciplines to devise an original show for children aged 5 – 8. The show toured to schools and community projects in and around Glasgow to reach children who have experience of care.
